Resa Eckhart, LMFT
Welcome to Glen Haven! I am Resa Eckhart, and I’m thrilled to be a part of a great group of therapists striving to help others live healthier, richer, more fulfilling lives.I grew up in central Iowa, studied psychology at Iowa State University, attended graduate school at Indiana Wesleyan University, and then moved home to be near family. I love the Lord. I am married to a wonderful man and we have twin daughters whom we are crazy about. I thoroughly enjoy doing therapy and feel humbled that God would call me to a profession in which I get to talk, laugh, and cry with others en route to helping them achieve their goals. I am blessed!
In graduate school, I specialized in Marriage and Family Therapy, which focuses on how our relationships influence our ability to function individually and vice versa. I do individual, premarital, marital and family therapy and have experience working with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma/PTSD, life cycle issues, transition issues, eating disorders, personality patterns and disorders, and relational distress. With individuals, I use a variety of clinical approaches depending on the presenting concern. I believe that addressing a client’s emotional experience is vital in the therapeutic process. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy with couples, an empirically proven approach that helps couples change their interactional pattern from one of anger, criticism, distance, and disconnection to one of security, emotional safety, closeness, and connection. I have advanced training in this model and am working towards certification.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in the success of therapy, so I strive to connect with each client with whom I work. I also believe we are integrated beings, made up of mind (thoughts and emotions), body (physical state), and spirit (spirituality). I address each of these components in therapy as needed.
