Hello, my name is Matthew Cooper. I was excited to move back to my home state a few years ago. It is wonderful again to live close to family and friends. I graduated from Grand View University in Des Moines, IA. I then attended The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute. There I obtained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and my Masters in Clinical Psychology. I always wanted to work with children, adolescents, and young adults. Therefore, I found myself wanting to complete a child and adolescent track in graduate school. I took a number of elective courses specifically to expand my clinical knowledge and to allow me to work with children and adolescents.

My faith is very important to me. I believe that God provided a specific path for me in order to become a psychologist. I enjoy each day waking up and being able to go to work and know that I am helping people. Many of my work experiences have included working with children and adolescents in a variety of settings. I have worked in inpatient hospitals, community based mental health clinics, schools, residential facilities, and in private practice. I enjoy what I do.

I use a broad range of clinical techniques. My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy. However, I accept and value other therapeutic orientations and integrate these principles into my therapeutic repertoire. A therapeutic relationship is an important part of the treatment course. Therefore, it is helpful for me to get to know you through this process. I believe that my role as a psychologist is that of a change agent, a facilitator to help my patients work on whatever it may be that brought them to therapy. My clinical experience includes working with problems such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, trauma, stress, and other psychological and emotional problems. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults.
